Kingsley Agreed to Taj Mahal Movie

In 1982, Sir Ben Kingsley performed an Oscar winning turn playing Gandhi in Sir Richard Attenborough's Gandhi. Kingsley has agreed to play another "instrumental figure in Indian history" as Shah Jahan, the man who built the Taj Mahal back in the 1600s. The project title is Taj and was written by British playwright and novelist David Ashton.
Fall 2010 is when shooting is projected to begin, and a director needs to come onboard as well. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (Miss World) and Indian actress will star as Mumtaz Mahal, Jahan's "favored wife" and the woman whose death in childbirth motivated the construction of the Taj Mahal between 1632 and 1654. Kingsley's wife, Brazilian actress Daniela Lavender, will play Persian princess Kandahari Begum, Jahan's first wife.
