Fincher Found his Dragon Tattoo Girl

August 17th 2010 16:31

THR reports that David Fincher has picked Rooney Mara to star as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the adaptation of the best-selling book by Stieg Larsson.

Mara can be seen in the remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. Now, she will star opposite Daniel Craig in the role that has been one of the most contested of the year.

Reportedly, Fincher considered a wide range of actresses for the role of Salander, from Natalie Portman and Anne Hathaway to Ellen Page and Mia Wasikowska to newcomers such as Sophie Lowe.

The reason for the competition was that Salander is one of the more complicated female roles to come along in years. The girl is tattooed and pierced. She is a hacker who goes from being a victim to warrior. Another reason for the strong interest in the role is that the character is also the lead in a book trilogy which Sony will be adapting, which appeals to actresses for a franchise that is almost guaranteed and not based on a comic book.
