Solomon Kane - 16th Century Action Hero
September 15th 2009 19:31
This is the first time I have heard of this movie, which is based on the character created by Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan the Barbarian). Captain Solomon Kane is a brutally efficient 16th Century killing machine. Armed with his signature pistols, cutlass and rapier, he and his men unleash their bloodlust as they fight for England in war after war on all continents.
Starring British actor James Purefoy (The Philanthropist, Rome, Vanity Fair) and directed and written by Michael J. Bassett, the film will be screened as part of the Toronto International Film Festivals Midnight Madness line-up on Wednesday, September 16.
With Solomon Kane, Conan and his other heroes, iconic American writer Robert E. Howard created the genre now known as “SWORD & SORCERY,” in the late 1920s and early 1930s. His work has spawned countless imitators and given rise to his influence in the fantasy genre which can be rivaled only by J.R.R. Tolkien (Lord of the Rings). Now just shy of a decade later, Solomon Kane is poised to be the next great film trilogy.
