I was very impressed when I first watched Joan Crawford’s classic 1945 drama Mildred Pierce. Director Michael Curtis tailored the movie beautifully around her with an all star cast.

Kate Winslet is now taking on the heroine, a troubled single mom in 1930s Southern California, for a five-part HBO miniseries, airing in spring 2011. Both movies are based on the novel of the same name.
