Mel Gibson in 'The Beaver'

July 11th 2009 04:22

Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster were great together in 1994’s Maverick and now they will be together again in The Beaver with Jodie Foster directing.

Gibson will play a despondent man who finds succor in wearing a beaver hand-puppet. Foster will play the role of the man’s wife while she also directs.

Production should start around September of this year.

Gibson and Foster together again will be great to see.

A hand puppet!

Poor Mel. . .

Things just aren't going his way anymore, are they?

The Beaver might belong to Foster. That's a good thing, at least for Foster.

When ever I think of Mel Gibson, I think of Brave Heart

Braveheart is a classic, great movie.

Braveheart's one of his better efforts, but still poorly done I thought - the story lost its edge as the movie progressed (which often happens in the B-grades) and continuity was something to be desired with his weapon changing from battle-axe to sword and back again (or something like that) in the middle of that 'great' charging scene - which I could never work out from his point of view. Granted there would've been a million pretentious takes, but you'd still think that he could remember which was his primary weapon - especially being the 'consumate professional' that he claims he is.

And why did the weapon change? Did the sword better reftect his complexion, or then again, did the axe make him look taller? Let's try both, they obviously decided - and then forgot about it in the final cuts and viewings.

With all his success and adulation and money and religion, he has turned out a bitter, hate-filled little man who doesn't like getting old.

Perhaps the Nazi memorabilia he collects will bolster his crumbling values? - or his anti-semitic, drunken rants? Maybe the new young wifey will be his source for eternal hope and youth? And even though he's now living in sin and has fathered a 'bastard child' - to quote from his own texts - maybe God will still let him into heaven because he is a rich movie star and built his own catholic church?

I think the next 5 years will reveal a lot more about the true nature of our 'adorable' little Mel.

I don't know about sword and axes from scene to scene. Perhaps that is important to some.

I do know that Braveheart won 5 Oscars, best director being one.
