Ang Lee Found His Pi
October 26th 2010 22:11
Most of us know that Ang Lee was in pre-production for the big-screen adaptation of Yann Martel's tome "Life of Pi." Now, it looks like Lee is sailing off to sea to start lensing the fantasy adventure early next year.
Ang Lee auditioned 3,000 young men that took months and he finally has casted his lead, a newcomer, Suraj Sharma, in the title role.
Pi will mark Lee's first 3D movie, and he will utilize the state-of-the-art technology in rendering the epic story.
The script comes from David Magee, who wrote one of my favorite stories, Finding Neverland. Principal photography will begin in Taiwan and India this January.
According to Variety, Pi tells the story of a boy who is lost at sea for 227 days in a lifeboat with three unusual and increasingly hungry companions -- a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker, a hyena, a zebra and an orangutan. He's left stranded in the tiny boat after the ship carrying his family and his family's zoo sinks, and must find a way to survive.
The movie will be released on December 14, 2012.
