Movie Roar - Hear the Movies Roar!

Disney's John Carter Teaser Trailer

July 16th 2011 05:05

John Carter is an action-adventure movie opening everywhere March 9, 2012. Disney studio movie cast includes Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, with Thomas Haden Church and Willem Dafoe.

Director by Andrew Stanton (WALL-E) who also co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Andrews and Michael Chabon (credit not final) is based on the classic novel “A Princess of Mars” by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. Burroughs was born in Chicago and is best known for writing and creating Tarzan—still one of the most successful and iconic fictional creations of all time. “A Princess of Mars” is Burroughs’ first novel.

The sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars) tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

The teaser trailer doesn't really tell much about the over all story of the movie, but it does show some fantastic visuals of landscapes and beautiful looking people.

This one will be a "must see" for my family. We have all 12 of the books and every generation loves them!

S.L,

Wow! All twelve books, I didn't realize the series was that long. Do you think my 10 year old daughter would like them?

If she's into adventure, probably. My grandson read them at that age. The Emerald books are good for girls about that age, too. Reading is so important for kids!

Maybe I should be more specific, the Emerald books by Manda Spring. They were great favorites of my grand daughter at 10 years old (and older).

Thanks for the tip. I will see how my daughter responds to them. How do they relate to Burrough's books?

The stories have nothing in common except for both being very entertaining, and the settings being in a different world from the one we live in. My kids were huge Burroughs fans and the grandkids are fans of both.

That is so cool. Kids need to read books! My daughter reads everyday, all the time. She loved reading Harry Potter.

I will check out the series. Burroughs is a great storyteller. Tarzan is a great story.
