Ellen Page has decided to play one its most famous characters, Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre," the classic 19th century romance. The story is about a mousy governess who tempers the heart of her irritable employer Mr. Rochester, only to uncover a terrible secret he's hiding.
"Jane Eyre" undoubtedly is one of the most adapted novels in English literature, with at least 20 previous film or TV versions. The last bigscreen adaptation, in 1996, was directed by Franco Zeffirelli and starred Charlotte Gainsbourg.
I am sure one more “Jane Eyre” with Ellen Page won’t hurt. The character is quite different from Ellen Page’s “Juno.”
