Mendes Set to Direct James Bond
January 6th 2010 05:58
I am very happy to hear that Sam Mendes is deciding the prospect of directing the 23rd installment of the James Bond franchise. Mendes will bring a whole new element to the Bond franchise. His films are off-beat and emotionally driven like American Beauty, where he won an Academy Award, Revolutionary Road and Away We Go. I just hope we get to see more parkour.
With Mendes behind the camera, production will be at the starting gates in no time and will be fast-tracked. Production could start as soon as June with a release date set for 2011.
The same writing team, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, together with Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon) will complete the script. My favorite Bond Daniel Craig will reprise his role as 007.

Film & TV on DVD
Mendes could be a good choice for keeping Bond grounded. It's cool that the angst and sacrifice of being 007 has come through in the last 2 films and I hope that trend continues. I just hope Kate Winslett doesn't become a Bond girl.
My only gripe is that Mendes was meant to be working on a cinema adaptation of my favourite comic book, The Preacher. This news means that may be significantly delayed.

The Preacher is a big budget flick, which takes some funds that perhaps doesn't guarantee a return like Bond movies.
After Bond, Mendes has a track record with these kind of movies and can get the funding for The Preacher.
I am ready to see Mendes do Bond.
Who do you think would be an excellent Bond girl with Mendes directing?
