Peter Jackson May Direct Both Hobbit Movies
June 26th 2010 19:35
Peter Jackson is talking the talk in order to direct the two Hobbit films, which were left without a director after Guillermo del Toro blew the scene. Various filmmaking obstacles need to be worked out, but the insiders are optimistic according to THR.
The delay factor is what is holding up the handshake. MGM owns the rights and the studio is a little shaky to say the least.
Since del Toro’s departure, Warners/New Line, which runs point on the production over partner MGM, never did a full-on search for a director, even as some names surfaced as possible contenders. Why? Because, according to THR, Warners/New Line was trying to woo Jackson back to the movie as director.
As the story is told, Jackson has other commitments. He has been working on secret projects, which makes him hesitant on whether he wants to devote another huge portion of his life to the tales of J.R.R. Tolkien.
Hopefully, Jackson is looking at complicated nature and the advanced stage of the undertaking -- Middle-earth was being built from the ground up when del Toro left so unexpectedly.
I agree with Warners/New Line. Jackson is the most logical choice not only because he made the Lord of the Rings movies but also because he is deeply involved as a producer on the Hobbit films.
Keep your fingers crossed because, according the THR, the next few days will be crucial in the negotiating process between Jackson's camp and the Warners/New Line side
