Worthington as Dracula?

January 27th 2010 06:43

Avatar star Sam Worthington is in negotiations to star in Dracula Year Zero for Universal Pictures.

Alex Proyas will direct the picture from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless.

The storyline is hush-hush. Even so, Universal says the movie will explore the origin of Dracula, “weaving vampire mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad the Impaler and depicting Dracula as a flawed hero in a tragic love story set in a dark age of magic and war.”

Dracula Year Zero is keeping to Universal’s horror legacy where the studio released the 1931 Bela Lugosi film. Next month the studio releases The Wolfman.

Dracula Year Zero?? Puh-lease.
Why not Vlad the Impaler? Or better still Dracula, Dragon's Son.
Sam Worthington as Vlad?? Well, that'll be a dull, lifeless affair to say the least.

I can't really see Worthington as Dracula either, but he can't be as bad Richard Roxburgh.

Richard Boxburgh?

Gerard Butler? Oh, he's already played him (Dracula 2000) ... ummmmm, Christian Bale would make an evil and compelling Vlad, I'm sure!

Yes, Bale would take the gig seriously. What about Depp?

Depp would be very good also. Bale would give the role intensity, Depp would give it charisma ... actually they'd both give it intensity and both give it charisma ...

Yes they would do both. Yet, both take a different approach to the process.

Here is a crazy thought: I first thought of Matt Damon in the role, and then quickly realized that Ben Affleck might prove worthy. It would be a stretch, but what the heck.

Yuck, I couldn't think of anything worse than Christian Bale.

Gary Oldman should do it... oh wait.

Luke, not a Bale fan? I've not seen him in anything I don't like.

Hmm, Gary Oldman...might not be the right age, though.
