Crazy is Not Upbeat

I started to watch Crazy, a movie inspired by the life of Hank Garland, a legendary musician who joined the Grand Ol' Opry at 15 and rose to fame in the early 1950s as Nashville's premiere session guitarist.
I didn’t want to finish the movie because it’s a tragedy concerning not only a very talented musician, but the oppressive, wicked and cruel end of the music industry in Nashville. I steer away from such stories because music is an uplifting medium.
Garland's immense, innovative talents grace the timeless recordings of such music icons as Elvis Presley, The Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison and Patsy Cline. In 1961, he startled the music world by jumping genres from country and pop to jazz with the release of "Jazz Winds From A New Direction," a tour de force that to this day is considered an all-time classic jazz album.
Like I said tragically, a near-fatal car crash cut Garland's extraordinary career short.
But, forty-three years later, his stunning artistic triumphs live on in countless records.
Crazy is directed by Rick Bieber and the movie stars Waylon Payne, Ali Larter, Lane Garrison, Scott Michael Campbell and David Conrad. The acting is tight and convincing. I just wish there were more high points in the story.
