Paramount has finally decided to release Renee Zellweger horror movie Case 39. Directed by Christian Alvart, after sitting on the shelf for two years, the movie will finally be at the domestic box office on October 1, 2010.
According to Variety, the studio’s decision to open Case 39 came after the film struck a chord in territories including Mexico and Spain. The domestic marketing campaign will focus heavily on the Hispanic market, the fastest growing segment of the movie-going public.
Case 39 also stars Bradley Cooper, Ian McShane and Jodelle Ferland and has brought in nearly $15 million at the international box office and grossed little over $3 million in both Mexico and Spain.
The story revolves around a social worker (Zellweger) who is assigned to investigate the family of a 10-year-old (Ferland) girl. After the girl comes to live with her, the social worker discovers she might not be so innocent.
Alvart shot the movie in Vancouver in late 2006. It was first set to be released in the U.S. in February 2008, then April 2009.
