Movie Roar - Hear the Movies Roar!

Animal Kingdom Trailer

June 27th 2010 04:13

Animal Kingdom won the World Cinema Jury Prize at Sundance 2010, a gripping tale about survival and revenge in the most edgy locale, Melbourne, Australia.

Sundance says, “Pope Cody, an armed robber on the run from a gang of renegade detectives, is in hiding, surrounded by his roughneck friends and family. Soon, Pope’s nephew, Joshua "J" Cody, arrives and moves in with his hitherto-estranged relatives. When tensions between the family and the police reach a bloody peak, "J" finds himself at the center of a cold-blooded revenge plot that turns the family upside down.

“Wielding a formidable cinematic lexicon, writer/director David Michôd shows complete command of every frame as he shifts between simmering intensity and gut-wrenching drama. There isn't a false note in the film as it follows through on the tantalizing promise displayed in his short films and unleashes a fierce new voice in Australian cinema.”

Animal Kingdom opens in movie theaters August 13, 2010.

This is a great film Australian film Kenna - I am very surprised at the way they are marketing it for the US. In Australia the mother (jacki Weaver) is a surprise and is the reveal of the film for being nasty. She is lovely for most of the film until you realise she is the most powerful.

Probably one of my favourite films of the year and normally I have no faith in Australian films but this one packs a punch.

My review of the film is HERE and it has the Australian version of the trailer included - it also has the film's main song in it towards the end which is really powerful.

Hi Jason,

Yes, I like that trailer much better. "All Out of Love" is perfect.(BTW: you can adjust trailer sizes in the html. Go to width and you'll see the number to adjust.)

I saw The Black Balloon and loved it. Luke Ford was great in that movie.

Guy Pearce had a small but important role in The Hurt Locker. He was great in it.

I am not familiar with Jackie Weaver, but she does look diabolical -- in an underhanded way.

Australia has some FINE talent.
